How to Withdraw Casino Winnings in Canada

To withdraw (cash out) casino winnings in Canada, verify your identity and the bank account you will be paid into, open the cashier, choose a withdrawal method such as Interac e-Transfer or a bank transfer, and submit the amount. The request then sits as “pending” while the casino reviews it, and after approval the payment provider or your bank moves the money. In Ontario there is no fixed deadline: casinos must pay out “as soon as is practicable”. A bank transfer from OLG, for example, typically takes 3–5 business days after approval.

How to withdraw, step by step

  1. Verify your account before you need the money. Upload your ID and proof of the bank account you will be paid into. At OLG this is a bank statement, void cheque or cleared cheque dated within the last two months. Doing this early is the easiest way to avoid delays.
  2. Read the withdrawal rules once. Ontario casinos must tell you about every rule and restriction on withdrawals and every fee before you withdraw. Look for the minimum amount, any fee, and which methods you can withdraw to.
  3. Open the cashier and choose Withdraw. Pick a method that is listed for withdrawals, not only for deposits.
  4. Enter the amount and submit. You will see the request as pending.
  5. Wait for approval. The casino reviews the request and may ask for more documents.
  6. Receive the money. After approval, the time depends on the method and on your bank.

Withdrawal methods compared

Casinos do not all offer the same methods, and most do not publish payout times until you log in. The table shows what the payment providers and casinos themselves say.

Method How the money reaches you What we could confirm
Interac e-Transfer Straight to your Canadian bank account Limits are set by your bank, not by Interac. With Autodeposit the money lands without a security question.
Bank transfer (EFT) To your verified bank account Typically 3–5 business days after approval at OLG, where it is the only withdrawal method.
MuchBetter To your MuchBetter e-wallet, then on to your bank Listed as a banking method by 888casino Canada. MuchBetter publishes no payout times or fees for Canada.
Visa or Mastercard Depends on the casino Listed as banking methods by 888casino Canada. Check the cashier to see whether a card can receive withdrawals.
InstaDebit Not available The service has shut down.

If a large Interac withdrawal fails, check your bank’s e-Transfer limit before blaming the casino.

InstaDebit has shut down. It stopped taking deposits on February 27, 2026, and balances could be withdrawn until April 30, 2026. Any balance left after 28 days of inactivity is sent to the linked bank account. Many casino lists online still show it; they are out of date. See what to use instead of InstaDebit.

How long does a casino withdrawal take?

A withdrawal has two stages, and most “slow payout” complaints are about the first one.

  • Pending (casino review). The casino checks that you are the account holder, that the money goes to an account you hold, and whether any bonus terms still apply. The AGCO standards set no number of days here; they require the casino to process withdrawals “as soon as is practicable”.
  • Transfer (payment provider and bank). Once approved, the money moves. For a bank transfer from OLG this typically takes 3–5 business days.

Bank transfers are counted in business days, so weekends and holidays add time.

Can you reverse a withdrawal?

Cancelling a withdrawal while it is still pending is often called a reverse withdrawal. At OLG, for example, you open Pending Withdrawals in your account and click Cancel next to the request.

Do it only if you decide to yourself. In New Jersey, the gaming regulator has said that operators must not ask players, or offer them bonuses, to cancel a withdrawal, because players have the right to receive their funds as quickly as possible. If a casino nudges you to reverse a payout, that is a reason to be careful, not a reason to play on.

Why is my withdrawal delayed or declined?

  • Your identity or bank account is not verified yet. Ontario casinos may pay out only “after the appropriate verifications”, and identity checks follow Canada’s anti-money-laundering law. At OLG you cannot withdraw until your bank account is verified. See why online casinos ask for ID for what to upload.
  • The account is not in your name. The money must go to an account of which you are a legal holder. A partner’s or friend’s account will not work. An out-of-date document can also be refused: OLG asks for a bank document dated within the last two months.
  • A bonus is still active. If you accepted a bonus, its conditions may limit when you can withdraw. Ontario casinos must show all material conditions of an offer when they first present it, so check what you agreed to. Our wagering calculator shows how much is left to bet, and wagering requirements explained covers the rules that can block a withdrawal.
  • The method you chose is not allowed for this withdrawal. Some rules tie withdrawals to particular methods. The casino must spell these rules out, so read the Withdrawals section of its terms.
  • Your bank blocked or limited the payment. Interac limits are set by your bank.

What to do if your withdrawal is stuck

  1. Check the status in your account. If it is still pending, the casino has not approved it yet. At OLG, for example, a pending request can be cancelled from Pending Withdrawals.
  2. Contact support and ask exactly what is missing. Ask whether any document is outstanding and when the review will be finished. Save the chat or email.
  3. File a formal complaint with the casino. Use its official complaints process and keep the complaint number.
  4. Wait for the casino’s decision. In Ontario and Alberta this can take up to 90 days.
  5. Go to the regulator if the casino does not resolve it.
    • Ontario: file a complaint with the AGCO through its iAGCO online service. You will need the site name, your player ID and the casino’s complaint number.
    • Alberta: contact AGLC. Its first review takes about 3 business days; a full compliance review can take up to 5 weeks, and complex cases 3–6 months.

Regulators cannot get your money back for you. In Ontario, the AGCO can penalize a casino that broke the rules, from warnings to suspensions and fines. That is a strong reason to play only at casinos licensed in your province.

Are casino winnings taxed in Canada?

For recreational players, generally no. The CRA lists “lottery winnings of any amount” among the amounts you do not report on your tax return, unless the prize is income from employment, a business or property. Gambling as a business is the main exception. Income you later earn on the winnings is taxable: the CRA’s own example is interest on invested lottery winnings.

Winning in the United States is different. US casinos usually withhold 30% of gambling winnings from Canadian residents. You can get some or all of it back by filing a US non-resident tax return (Form 1040NR), with Form W-7 to get a tax ID number if you do not have one. Losses can be used to reduce the taxable amount.

FAQ

Can I cancel a pending withdrawal?

Often, yes, while the request is still pending. At OLG, for example, you open Pending Withdrawals in your account and click Cancel next to the request.

Why does the casino ask for my ID before paying out?

In Ontario, a casino may only pay out after it has checked that the request comes from the account holder and that the money goes to an account the player legally holds. Identity checks also follow Canada's anti-money-laundering law. At OLG, for example, you upload a bank document dated within the last two months and may be asked for a photo of your ID and a selfie.

Can I withdraw to a different method than the one I deposited with?

That depends on the casino's rules. Ontario casinos must tell you clearly about every rule and restriction on deposits and withdrawals, so check the Withdrawals section of the terms. Whatever the method, the money has to go to an account in your name.

How long can a casino take to pay me?

There is no fixed number of days in Ontario. The AGCO standards say a withdrawal must be processed accurately, completely and as soon as is practicable. If the casino is unreasonably slow, you can complain to the casino and then to the AGCO.

Can I still use InstaDebit at online casinos?

No. InstaDebit stopped accepting deposits on February 27, 2026, and balances could be withdrawn until April 30, 2026. InstaDebit itself points users to Interac instead.

Do I pay tax on casino winnings in Canada?

If you play for fun, generally no. The CRA lists lottery winnings among amounts you do not report on your tax return, unless the prize is income from a business. Interest you later earn on the money is taxable.
