Wagering Requirements Explained

A wagering requirement is the amount you must bet before a casino releases bonus money, or the winnings from it, for withdrawal. It is written as a multiplier, such as 10x or 15x, of a set amount: the bonus, your deposit, or both. A 10x requirement on a $100 bonus means $1,000 in bets. If the game you play counts only partly, for example blackjack at 10%, you have to bet ten times more. Use our wagering calculator to work out your own total.

How to calculate a wagering requirement

Total to bet = amount the requirement applies to × multiplier ÷ game contribution

Example Calculation Total to bet
$100 bonus, 10x the bonus, slots (100%) $100 × 10 ÷ 1 $1,000
$100 deposit, 15x the deposit, slots (100%) $100 × 15 ÷ 1 $1,500
$100 bonus, 10x the bonus, blackjack (10%) $100 × 10 ÷ 0.1 $10,000

The first two rows use the multipliers from real Ontario offers below. The third shows why the game you choose matters as much as the multiplier.

Two types of wagering requirement in Ontario

Casinos do not all count wagering the same way. Two licensed Ontario casinos show the two main approaches.

Bonus-based (OLG) Deposit-based (LeoVegas Ontario casino welcome offer)
What you multiply The bonus you received The amount you deposited
Example multiplier 10x the casino bonus (2025 match-deposit offer) 15x your deposit
Which bets count Bets on eligible games, by contribution rate Real-money bets on eligible games
Time limit 168 hours (7 days) from when the bonus is credited 30 days after depositing
When the reward is yours The bonus converts to cash once the requirement is met The reward is released once the requirement is met

LeoVegas Ontario’s live casino welcome offer works the same way but needs 40x your deposit within 7 days, so the same casino can ask for very different amounts depending on the offer.

Game contribution: why your game choice matters

Each game type counts towards the requirement at a set rate. A 10% rate means a $10 bet counts as $1.

Game type OLG LeoVegas Ontario casino offers
Slots 100% 100% (a few titles 70% or less)
Blackjack 10% 10% (table games)
Roulette 0% 10% (table games)
Baccarat 0% 10% (table games)
Video poker 0% 10%
Live casino games Game shows 100%; live roulette and baccarat count as roulette and baccarat 0% (a few game shows 10%)
Crash and mine games Named titles such as Spaceman 100% 0%

LeoVegas Ontario’s live casino offer flips this: live games count and slots do not. A game at 0% does not count at all, even if the casino lets you play it while a bonus is active. LeoVegas Ontario also excludes “minimal risk” betting, such as roulette bets covering more than 24 numbers.

The rules that matter more than the multiplier

  • The time limit. If you do not finish in time, the bonus and its winnings are removed. OLG gives 168 hours; LeoVegas Ontario gives 30 days for its casino welcome offer and 7 days for its live casino one.
  • Withdrawing early. At OLG, withdrawing any part of your cash balance automatically removes all unconverted bonuses and the winnings from them. LeoVegas Ontario says you can withdraw your real-money balance without losing its casino welcome offer. Check this rule before you request a payout.
  • Which money is used first. At OLG, your cash balance is used first and bonus funds only when the cash runs out.
  • Caps. Offers have a maximum: up to $1,500 for LeoVegas Ontario’s casino welcome offer and up to $1,000 for OLG’s 2025 match-deposit bonus.

What Ontario rules say about bonuses

Ontario casinos licensed by the AGCO must follow its standards on advertising bonuses:

  • Where you can see offers. Bonus advertising is allowed only on the casino’s own site and in direct marketing you have agreed to receive. Public advertising of bonuses, including targeted online ads, is not allowed.
  • Conditions up front. An offer must show all its material conditions and limitations when it is first presented on the site, with the rest no more than one click away.
  • No fake “free”. An offer cannot be called free if you have to risk or lose your own money or if conditions apply to your own money. It cannot be called risk-free if you must risk your own money to use or withdraw winnings.
  • Reasonably attainable. Casinos may not offer a promotion that cannot reasonably be achieved without substantial losses.

If an Ontario offer hides its wagering terms or calls a conditional bonus “free”, it breaks these standards, and you can raise it with the AGCO.

Should you take a bonus at all?

You do not have to. A bonus with a wagering requirement can stop you withdrawing your own money until the requirement is met or the bonus is removed, depending on the casino’s rules. If your priority is a quick payout, playing without a bonus is the simplest option. If you do take one, read the multiplier, what it applies to, the time limit and the early-withdrawal rule before you deposit.

FAQ

What does a 15x wagering requirement mean?

You must place bets worth 15 times a set amount before the bonus is released. The terms say what that amount is: at LeoVegas Ontario's casino welcome offer it is your deposit, so a $100 deposit means $1,500 in real-money bets.

Does the wagering apply to the bonus or to my deposit?

It depends on the offer. At OLG, the requirement is a multiple of the bonus. LeoVegas Ontario's casino welcome offer uses a multiple of your deposit. The terms always say which, so check that line first.

Do table games count towards wagering?

Usually only partly. At OLG, slots count 100%, blackjack 10%, and roulette, baccarat and video poker 0%. At 10%, every $10 you bet counts as $1.

What happens if I withdraw before finishing the wagering?

It depends on the casino. At OLG, withdrawing any part of your cash balance removes all unconverted bonuses and the winnings from them. LeoVegas Ontario lets you withdraw your real-money balance without losing its casino welcome offer.

Can an Ontario casino call a bonus free?

Only if it really is free. If you have to risk or lose your own money, or there are conditions on your own money, the AGCO standards do not allow the offer to be described as free.
